Why is the older guitar the more sought after guitar? A hand made, quality guitar will get betterover time. As a guitar ages, so does the sound; soothing  is the word for a vintage guitar as the wood changes over time.
What is a vintage guitar anyway.

Many other things to consider come into play when you thinking about a vintage guitar. If a guitar was only made in a short run then it may be not available and therefore more valuable. Martin guitars have several models that were made in short runs to begin with so are instantly collectable.

The Les Paul Gold Top guitar had a particularly cherished finish and golden color which also aged well. With the Fender Stratocaster the quality was more sought after during an earlier time of the companys history. There are also signature guitars which are usually endorsed by a famous guitar player and bears their name. This does not make them vintage but it does increase their value. If a guitar was played by someone like Jimi Hendrix or BB King, that would make it more sought after.If you could prove that Santana played the guitar, that would make it more valuable as well. A guitar that has a great sound will be valued regardless of the age of the guitar.

Some of the older guitar amplifiers are also considered to be collectable and vintage. Some of the amplifiers that fit into this category are Fender,Vox and Marshall. The tube circuitry is largely responsible for the sound of these amps.

Todays collectable guitar is a work of art in its own right and is highly valued . A vintage guitar is a piece of history of todays modern guitar.Knowing that so and so played the guitar really adds to its reputation  and enjoyment. The sound of rock and roll itself are contained in these instruments.

Many of the vintage guitars we see today, have been restored, to make them sound and play as close to the as possible.
